Vineland Rotarian Diane Alcantara asks that we provide support!
Hurricane Fiona tore across Puerto Rico on September 21st, bringing high winds and massive flooding which severely damaged the already shaky electrical grid. A week later, 1.5 million people are still without electricity.
AMURTEL has two Solar Trailers in Puerto Rico at this time. They have been deployed to neighborhoods in Salinas, one of the hardest hit areas. These trailers can purify up to 600 gallons of water a day, in addition to charging cell phones and small appliances.
AMURTEL volunteers are distributing solar lanterns to families without generators, or other sources of light. Each lantern has a USB port that can be used to charge cell phones.
AMURTEL has purchased hundreds of these lanterns, and we are planning to purchase hundreds more.
Your help would be greatly appreciated for our neighbors in Puerto Rico.
Donations can be sent for Puerto Rico to: AMURTEL, PO Box 232, Warren, VT, 05674, or through: www.amurtel.org.
