President Harry Maloney called the meeting to order at 11:45 am.
The meeting began with Sherry Soutiere leading the club in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by Norm Neill with the Four Way Test. David Hanrahan providing the blessing, reading an appropriate verse from the Bible. Gus Foster served as Sergeant at Arms.
Annoucements:
Volunteers are needed this Friday, August 5th to prepare bag lunches for Spirit and Truth. This is an ongoing event that takes place the first Friday of every month. It takes place at the First United Methodist Church Seventh and Landis. Be there by 8:45 am. Typically, we finish 100 bagged lunches in 45 minutes or less.
The monthly Membership Meeting will be Thursday, August 4th at the Black Olive Restaurant. The meeting begins at 7:30 am. Meetings are held at this time and place on the 2nd Thursday of each month. All are invited.
Linda Rumick reminded the club that our evening meetings are held on the LAST Thursday of each month at the Green Olive Restaurant starting at 5:45 pm. Mark your calendars!
Sandy Hearing asked for our members to attend the Thursday, August 25th evening meeting at the Green Olive. The RYLA students will be present to talk about their experience at this year’s gathering. Let’s show our support to these students by being there!
An evite has been sent out to all members from Karen Bauman concerning the “on site” lunch meeting at The Espoma Company (6 Espoma Rd. Millville) . This meeting will take place Tuesday, August 16th starting at 11:30 am instead of our regular lunch meeting.Please RSVP as soon as possible so that lunch orders can be prepared.
David Hanrahan wants us to mark our calendars for Saturday, October 22nd when Peddles for Progress will be relocating bikes and sewing machines to their new storage space. Thank you to Nick Surace for providing space for this worthy endeavor! We need people who would be willing to pick up the bikes if the people donating cannot deliver them. The Gift of Life Foundation 25th Anniversary celebration is scheduled on September 11that the Lucien’s Distinguished Catering in Berlin from 2:00 - 6:00 pm. Get your reservations in soon. A number of our members will be attending.
Program:
Our guest speaker was Rebekah Masters who gave an in-depth presentation about rare genetic diseases. The topic was interesting as well as informative. Rebekah is a resource teacher of Biology at the Vineland High School. Following her presentation, Rebekah answered a number of questions from very interested Rotarians. Thank you Rebekah!
Frank Rumick collected $ Happy Dollars $ from a number of our members who had good news to share.
